The longer the conflict drags on, the bigger the impact on energy markets that have already seen fuel prices soar, with some parts of the world experiencing shortages. Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern producers have been forced to slash oil output in recent days, and are racing to implement workarounds to export barrels outside of Hormuz.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations said on Thursday that a ship was struck by an unknown projectile just north of Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates, while a spokesperson for the Thai Navy said a cargo vessel was hit on Wednesday.
